Mental Health Support in Schools
Therapy, training and reflective practice in the education sector
Fortis Therapy & Training provide bespoke services and packages to schools, academies and colleges, supporting young people, parents and staff. We do this through one-to-one confidential counselling, art and play therapy, creative interventions, professional and personal development workshops, and training, covering a wide variety of areas from child development, attachment and loss to eating disorders and self-harm.
For staff, our team can also provide ongoing support through reflective practice, wellbeing sessions and coaching. This will help your establishment to create a psychologically informed environment, with employees who are able to understand the various mental health problems within the school setting.
We work systemically, liaising with your organisation and using multi-agency working as appropriate to ensure safeguarding of children, adolescents and vulnerable adults.
Ultimately, it’s our aim to:
- Increase attendance and attainment of pupils
- Encourage positive parental engagement
- Promote positive behaviour
- Build independence, self-efficacy and resilience
- Improve emotional wellbeing and mental health for all
a whole school wellbeing approach

Service Level Agreements & Retainers
While we will always provide cost-effective and responsive support when you need it (for example, children and parents that require help, a member of staff who is struggling, or training), Fortis offers retainers and Service Level Agreements (SLA) – to enable to you continually support your students, staff and parents. The details are bespoke to your requirements, confirming the different aspects of service you would like and how this is delivered. The SLA identifies the time scale of the agreement, identified link workers, details of the service being provided and costings.
For more information, or to discuss any concerns you may have, get in touch. Give us a call on 01472 241794 or email firstname.lastname@example.org – we’re always here to help.
The work undertaken by Fortis forms an important part of the holistic provision we feel is invaluable in ensuring our children thrive. We have also used Fortis to provide training sessions to staff and information sessions to parents.
More recently, we have begun using Fortis to provide Reflective Practice sessions for members of staff who routinely deal with safeguarding concerns.
Regardless of the role they are undertaking, the work of the Fortis practitioners has always been highly effective and well received. Mr Steve Carr
They provide 1:1 therapeutic intervention to our most vulnerable pupils. The service they have provided has been very successful. Every pupil referred to Fortis has engaged in the support and attended all their sessions. The Fortis staff are extremely professional and have a good relationship with the students. They provide regular feedback on each pupil and contact parents when necessary.
Overall an excellent service and one I would certainly recommend. Sonia Ellerington
Our assigned Fortis staff have become valued members of the school staff team. Our parents know of the positive work that they have completed and applaud their involvement with themselves and their children.
The school is quick to identify children who require pastoral care and we ensure that they have access to the necessary in-house support. Usually, this route has positive outcomes, but if the source of the difficulty requires a specialist programme then we make a referral to Fortis. Children may benefit from group work with peers or 1:1 support. All referrals have to be authorised by parents. In the case of 1:1 referrals, Fortis hold an initial meeting with parents to discuss any background information or issues, this is confidential unless the parents and carers agree that it would be advantageous to school to know any of the details. At the end of the six-week programme, there is an evaluation meeting with parents.
In the case of group work, there are evaluation meetings with class teachers during, and at the end of, a programme. There are regular meetings with the Headteacher, and Fortis staff have also facilitated training for the whole school and for key personnel in KS1 and KS2, as well as focus parent groups.
As a school, we hold Fortis in high esteem. The impact on our school has been significant. We have no hesitation in recommending their programmes to other schools, although these will be bespoke to the identified needs. Fortis is an outstanding source of support. Jayne Day
We have had the opportunity to work with the same therapist, which has helped massively with continuity and relationship building with children and parents and find them to be responsive and proactive in team meetings. Claire Rigg
