Anti-Bullying Week 2021 – One Kind Mind

We now work with countless schools on their approach to wellbeing and mental health in the world of education. From a trauma-informed way of working to a whole-school approach to wellbeing, the results we are seeing across the board speak for themselves. Teachers at all levels are happier, children are happier and as a result productivity, attendance and results are all on the up.

Given our involvement with schools, you won’t be surprised to learn that Anti-Bullying Week is a big date in our calendar. Coordinated in England and Wales by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, this year the awareness week runs from 15 to 19 November 2021, championing the theme ‘One Kind Word’.

The week will begin with Odd Socks Day which is being supported by CBBC and CBeebies star Andy Day and his band Andy and the Odd Socks. It’s really easy to get involved with Odd Socks Day – we know that our therapist’s children have so many pairs of odd socks they could do this every day!

But the theme this year really is something we wanted to talk about. Kindness is more important today than it has ever been. The isolation we all experienced over the last year, even longer, has underlined how little acts of consideration can break down barriers and brighten the lives of the people around us.

Following the success of the campaign in 2020 – when a jaw-dropping 80 per cent of schools marked the week reaching over 7.5 million children and young people – the Anti-Bullying Alliance asked over 400 young people, teachers, and parents, what they wanted from this year’s Anti-Bullying Week. Again and again, the young and not-so-young told us they wanted anti-bullying work to be about hope and the positive and kind things we can do to halt hurtful behaviour in its tracks. For us, prevention is always the goal, of course we work with all kinds of clients to support them when they need it, often in their darkest times, but if we can alter who we behave and prevent certain behaviours reaching that dark stage the better we will all be for it.

The Anti-Bullying Alliance have got so many resources available this year as well as free packs for schools to utilise and download to raise awareness and spread One Kind Word.

Anti-Bullying Alliance patron, CBBC and CBeebies star Andy Day will be right behind the campaign again with his band Andy and the Odd Socks. The band will release a totally rocking tune to celebrate Odd Socks Day as part of Anti-Bullying and, whilst we can’t reveal much, if the last year’s songs and videos are anything to go by, it will be a show-stopper. Andy will highlight Odd Socks Day on the first day of Anti-Bullying Week. There’s a serious message behind the fun: let’s pull on odd socks to show we’re ALL unique and different, and let’s be kind to each other and respect each other’s individuality.
