Making autumn an event!

We’re headed to, and hosting, some great events this season... Let us fill you in on what's going on this autumn when it comes to each event - including The Emergency Services Show 2022!

For many years now, Alexis and members of the Fortis team have been supporting personnel in the emergency services with their mental health.

It is something that, as a company, we are incredibly passionate about. Day to day, people working in the police, fire and rescue, and ambulance services face unthinkable challenges, make critical decisions, and learn to cope with the things they perhaps can’t help but take home with them.

If the emergency services are busy protecting and helping us, who is protecting them and helping their mental wellbeing? When you think about it, it’s a bit like the oxygen mask analogy; in order to safely protect the public, those in the blue light sectors need to support their teams, colleagues, and themselves first.

On 21st September, Alexis will be speaking live at the 2022 Emergency Services Show. It’s the first time she will be in attendance at this incredible event, and from the conversations we’ve had with our contacts in police forces across Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, and Lancashire, she is in for a fascinating couple of days…

What is the Emergency Services Show event?

This is a vast, energetic two-day event where personnel from all disciplines of the emergency services sector gather to learn, network, and collaborate, united in their approach to upholding public safety.

Last year, the ESS, which is held at the NEC in Birmingham, welcomed over 10,000 professionals, and boasted over 450 exhibitors, speakers, and live demonstrations. This year, Alexis will be one of them, joining experts from all areas of blue light related industries in the seminar line-up.

What is Alexis presenting?

Alexis will be delivering ‘Working with a Trauma Informed Approach to Policing’ during this tw-day event.

“Policing is inherently linked to trauma, for victims, perpetrators, officers and staff, the investigations themselves or the ‘system’. How can policing work in a more trauma informed way, to increase knowledge and awareness of the impact of trauma including vicarious trauma, and to manage people effectively and supportively.”

The seminar takes place in the Health & Wellbeing Theatre, where throughout the two days, experts in mental wellness, health and nutrition, workforce diversity, and the latest digital support platforms will be taking to the stage. The goal of this Theatre is to equip blue light professionals with the tools and knowledge to firstly, maximise wellbeing, as well as drive performance.

Join Alexis for her seminar on Wednesday 21st September, 2.30pm, and be sure to visit Fortis at Stand A5 across both days of the Emergency Services Show 2022 to see how they can help support you and your team.

Fortis’ connection to the emergency services

The expertise that Alexis is bringing to the Emergency Services Show stems from Fortis’ extensive work within the police and the National Police Wellbeing Service, Oscar Kilo.

To date, we work with Humberside Police, South Yorkshire Police, and Lancashire Police, collaborating on a whole organisation approach to wellbeing culture, embedding mental health practices and policies into each workplace to ensure that police officers and staff members of all levels are supported in their wellbeing, and that leadership teams have the knowledge and tools to support their people. Together, we encourage effective, empathetic leadership from within so that those working in some of the most traumatic and stressful areas of policing have the internal support they need.

In fact, in case you missed it, Fortis recently won an award for their mental health work with the police. We were named Mental Health Consultancy of the Year in the 2022 This Can Happen Awards.

Also look out for…

It’s not just the emergency services that benefit from a whole organisation approach to mental health. This is something we have successfully been implementing in regional and national businesses for several years, in a wide variety of sectors.

We will also be attending Business Hive Live again this year! We love this event and are thrilled to once again be exhibiting at 2022's Hive Live event on October 4th. Northern Lincolnshire’s largest FREE B2B Conference and Expo, with over 50 exhibitors from businesses across Northern Lincolnshire and hundreds of professionals coming through the doors, it's a great event for us and we're sure this year will be no different. As always we also have fantastic guest speakers covering a range of current and engaging topics, including keynote speaker, Tim Dorsett, Innocent Drinks. Join us from 8.30am until 4pm.

Then there's The Great Big Small Awards too. We're once again thrilled to be sponsoring the North East Lincolnshire Great Gig Small Awards event, a true celebration of the incredible efforts of small businesses in our area. This year’s event take place on Friday, 7th October from 7pm, just one part of 2022’s Great Big Small Business Festival.
