Wow, what a whirlwind the last few weeks have been for Fortis!

Following the Business Excellence Forum & Awards, Claire and I headed to London for The Small Awards 2019, a prestigious ceremony recognising small businesses up and down the country for their growth, creativity, and commitment to their local communities.

It was a wonderful and motivational evening. Dr Amit Patel, a disability rights campaigner, motivational speaker, and accessibility consultant delivered the keynote speech of the evening. He told us about his story, his career in medicine, and how he lost his sight after being diagnosed with keratoconus. It was truly inspiring to hear how Dr Amit has dedicated his time and efforts to helping those new to sight loss, volunteering and fundraising for charities and campaigning on the accessibility issues that disabled people face.

On the night, there were over 50 micro, family, and online businesses shortlisted, each with incredible character and success stories. It was a real pleasure to be in their company. Fortis were finalists in the At Your Service category, which celebrates the best small service business that demonstrates “exceptional levels of customer service with evidence of strong customer engagement.” In case you missed our social media updates on the night… we won!

The biggest surprise came towards the end of the ceremony. The final award was the big one, The Small Business of the Year. This was chosen exclusively by the judges from the finalists of the night – and we won this too! You can imagine how excited we were to have been named as the best small business in the UK. We love what we do, so to be recognised as “the best of the best” is truly humbling.

Once again, we have to say a huge thank you to all the Fortis team for their passion and hard work, and to our clients and social media community for their continuing encouragement and support.
