Mediation in schools | Fortis Therapy & Training

Supporting emotional wellbeing throughout your school.

The average UK pupil spends around 17,160 hours in school, and that’s discounting education past the age of 16. The average 15-year-old receives 5-hours’ worth of homework every week.

29% of teenagers report being bullied at school, 40% of young people reporting that they have been bullied within the last year, 21% of which admit to truanting within the same period. Relationships within the school setting can be particularly difficult, heightened and sensitive.

Support in the school environment | Fortis Therapy & Training

Cope better in challenging environments.

Around the pupils, are the adults who are managing all of the above on the pupil’s behalf, in what has become an increasingly challenging environment. Over recent times we have seen an increase in requests for mediation in schools where relationships have broken down - this can be in a team, a phase, or between leader and team member or Trust leader and Principal - often with historical instances that have begun the process of tensions and difficulties arising.

How can mediation help?

Through the process of mediation, we have developed a bespoke approach which is adapted to suit your school and needs, a facilitated process by a qualified and experienced therapist and mediator. As with all of our work, mediation is confidential, boundaried, person centred and non-judgemental, a safe space for individual members as well as groups to talk through the difficulties that have been encountered, and to find a way forward.

Moving forward together.

Blame, miscommunication, mis-perceptions often rear their heads during mediation. Our goal is to understand the underlying problems and coach each party to consider their own and each other’s behaviours, perspectives and perceptions to get to the bottom of communication breakdown and to work towards agreeing a way forward.  This effective approach has helped hundreds of people to feel heard, to understand what has happened and to move forward within their role and the organisation they work for.

Blame often rears its head during mediation. Our goal is to understand the real problems and coach each party to consider each other’s behaviours, perspectives and perceptions to get to the bottom of communication breakdown.
